Module THREE: Respect
Respect is when I show that I care, doing things and treating things with positive energy.
o Power of Positive Attitude
§ Think you can’t, you’re right! It’s very difficult to prove yourself wrong to yourself
§ Think you can, you’re right… it just might take a few times, first!
§ Attitude is what you think, feel and do
· Change one of the three to start moving in a new direction
o Listening the first time (triangle vs. circle)
§ When teachers, mom, dad, or even you have to repeat yourself, feeling positive or negative?
· Listen the first time, use your nose and repeat back what you heard
· Show that you care by your actions, and your tone
o Tonality & Magic Phrases
§ What you say is important, AND how you can it is ALSO important, too!
· Hey – silly, teasing, scared, angry, polite & respectful, which do you prefer?
Games for teachers and parents: Start using the Magic Phrases of Respect with your students. Say “Sir” and “Ma’am” with them and see what happens to their attitudes. Practice a formal greeting with everyone for one week – have everyone shake hand and use each other’s names. Practice “name x3, touch x3” every day with your students. Have your students come up with a set magic phrases at school and home everyone can use to help each other feel more positive.
During this program, families from Spring Valley Academy are invited to attend classes at Meng’s Martial Arts of Centerville free of charge for the duration of the 6-week program. These complimentary classes start with a 1:1 interview so the martial arts training program can be tailored to your family’s unique needs.
